Why do we need actin?
Unlike in striated muscle tissue where actin plays predominantly a single role as the structural element upon which myosin pulls, in nonmuscle cells actin does many chores. It forms a structural cytoskeleton which plays important roles in cell–cell and cell–substrate adhesion.
