What is the difference between acetone and acetophenone?
Acetophenone (an aromatic ketone) does not react with sodium bisulphite whereas acetone (an aliphatic ketone) reacts with sodium bisulphite to form a solid adduct which can be filtered. Then, it can be decomposed by acid or base to regenerate acetone.
