What is the biological importance of acetoacetic acid?
The ketones or ketone bodies, which are composed of acetoacetic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid (also known as β-hydroxybutyric acid), and acetone, are important compounds in the metabolism of birds and mammals. Ketosis simply means that ketones are present in body fluids in elevated concentrations.
