Erythrosine is manufactured by iodination of fluorescein, the condensation product of resorcinol and phthalic anhydride. Erythrosine may be converted to the corresponding aluminium lake in which case only the requirements in the General Specifications for Aluminium Lakes of Colouring Matters apply.
