Is Abbott the same as Bishop?
An Abbott is the Superior of a Monastery called an Abbey where all male monks reside. Most of them were priests but by special privilege they were allowed to wear the mitre and use the crosier, but they were not bishops but only priests. But Abbots can become Bishops but not all Bishops were former Abbots.Feb 1, 2017
