Ozkul et al. (20) found that the species Akkermansia muciniphila was enriched in the end of Ramadan fasting. It was stated that as a mucin degrading bacterium, A. muciniphila strongly adheres to the mucus layer, and can resist environmental changes, such as decreased food intake and changes in the intestinal flow rate.
